Frequently asked questions

How much do electric gates cost?

How long does the whole process take?

Eight to fourteen weeks from survey to commissioning for bespoke gates; two to four weeks for automation retrofits. Timeline detail: buying guide.

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not — the exceptions are gates over 1m beside a highway, over 2m elsewhere, listed properties and Article 4 conservation areas. Detail: planning guide.

Sliding or swing — which do I need?

Are electric gates safe for children and pets?

Yes when compliant: force limits, safety edges and photocells exist precisely for this, verified by calibrated testing. The standard: BS EN 12453 explained.

Can you automate my existing gates?

Do you repair gates you didn't install?

Yes, all brands, safety check first. Symptoms and cost bands: repairs.

How often do gates need servicing?

Annually for homes, six-monthly for shared entrances — it's a legal-drift issue as much as mechanical. Plans from £180: servicing.

Will gates add value to my house?
